Safavid Persian Malice… “Ascar Mokram City” in Ahwaz Threatened with Destruction

The city of Ascar Mokram in the occupied Arab State of Ahwaz is witnessing an increase in violence and destruction of Sunni historical landmarks, as a result of the clash between the Iranian nationalist wave and the Safavid sectarian movement amidst policies of resettlement, Persianization of Ahwaz, and displacement of Ahwazis from the area.

Ascar Mokram city, known in the regions of Ahwaz, is attributed to Mokram bin Muazza Al-Harith, one of the sons of Ja’oon bin Al-Harith bin Nemir bin Amer bin Sa’sa’a.

Over the past decades, following the Iranian occupation of the State of Ahwaz in 1925 and then the rise of hardline clerics to power in 1979, Sunni Islamic archaeological landmarks in the archaeological site of Ascar Mokram were destroyed. This is a historical area that was established as a city in the early Islamic era, located near the village of Jaliea and the Masrigan river.

Persian nationalists seek to promote their connection to the Sassanian civilization by manipulating Ahwazi heritage, while Safavid clerics aim to destroy it due to Safavid sectarian orientations, based on its ancient Sunni Ahwazi history.

Recent reports have observed the Iranian occupation’s current actions of starting asphalt covering around the Ramin settlement, located on the Ahwaz – Toster road approximately 40 kilometers away, aiming to accommodate immigrants from Persians and other nationalities. This step is part of a plan to change the demographic composition and ethnic cleansing executed by the Iranian authorities in the Arab region of Ahwaz.

The Iranian occupation aims to build part of this settlement on the ruins of the historical city of “Ascar Mokram”, which dates back to the pre-Islamic era.

Furthermore, the floods of the Karkheh river during the winter threaten this city, which contains many historical and cultural landmarks, leading to the submersion of many of them.

The destruction of civilization, heritage, and history symbolizing the Ahwazi people since the Elamite and Maysan civilizations clearly targets the existence of this Arab Ahwazi people by successive Iranian regimes, aiming to erase its identity, culture, and human heritage.
