Iranian officials admit to marginalizing the city of Ma’shour despite its wealth

The military governor appointed by Iranian authorities in the city of Ma’shour, Shahin Hashemi, admitted that the city suffers from major problems on multiple levels and requires “special national attention” from Iranian officials a clear acknowledgment of the long-standing neglect and deprivation faced by its residents.

His remarks came during the inauguration of an artificial turf sports field affiliated with the Mostazafan Foundation, one of Iran’s largest economic institutions, which controls vast projects and lands in Ahwaz without any of the profits benefiting the local population.

Although Hashemi spoke about the government’s so-called “achievements,” he conceded that widespread poverty and deprivation persist in Ma’shour, reflecting the failure of Iran’s policies to improve conditions in one of Ahwaz’s richest regions in terms of oil and gas resources.

Meanwhile, Mostafa Matorzadeh, a member of the Iranian parliament, revealed that the city lacks adequate medical and tourism facilities.

He pointed out that the city’s main hospital suffers from severe underfunding, while there are no health centers in southern Ma’shour.
