Execution of Ahwazi citizen “Babak Haji” in Al-Hawira prison after an untransparent trial
In a continuation of the Iranian occupation’s policies against the Arab Ahwazi people, the occupation authorities executed the Ahwazi citizen Babak Haji Pour, 49 years old, in Al-Hawira (Sepidar) Prison in the city of Ahwaz.
Haji Pour, a resident of Masjed Soleyman in Ahwaz, was arrested in 1994 following an altercation that resulted in the death of a person.
After his trial, Haji Pour spent four years in Al-Hawira Prison, where he was initially acquitted. However, the case was reopened after his release. At a later stage, the criminal court sentenced him to death in absentia.
In 2014, Haji Pour was arrested again and transferred to Sepidar Prison in Ahwaz, where he remained detained until the execution was carried out today.
No official announcement has been made by prison officials or the Iranian occupation authorities regarding the execution of the prisoner. Furthermore, Tehran has not released any details about the incident, adding to the ambiguity surrounding the case.
The death sentence continues to spark widespread controversy among international human rights organizations. Human rights activists point out that executions in Ahwaz often occur under a lack of transparency, raising numerous concerns about unfair trials and prolonged detention before execution.
