Iranian Occupation Forces Arrest Ahwazi Youth in Tustar for Demanding Employment Opportunities

On Saturday morning, Iranian occupation forces launched an arrest campaign targeting several young Ahwazi men in the Al-Shaabiya neighborhood of Tustar, a city in occupied Al-Ahwaz.

According to local sources, the arrests were triggered by the legitimate demands of these youth, who have been calling for prioritizing the employment of Ahwazi citizens in local institutions and development projects instead of bringing in Persian workers from cities like Tehran and Isfahan.

The detainees were transferred to several detention centers in Tustar and the capital city of Ahwaz, amid growing concerns about the potential for severe human rights violations during their detention.

The identities of the arrested Ahwazis have not yet been disclosed. However, local reports indicate that “around 30 individuals” were arrested during the early morning raids carried out by Iranian occupation forces in Tustar.

The report added that the arrests caused widespread panic among the detainees’ families and residents of the targeted neighborhoods.

These repressive actions are part of a systematic policy pursued by Iranian authorities to silence Ahwazi voices demanding their legitimate rights—foremost among them the right to employment and participation in the administration of their region, which continues to suffer from marginalization and institutional discrimination.
