Unknown Fate of Five Citizens Detained for 17 Months in Sheiban Prison
The fate of five citizens, who were arrested by the Iranian occupation authorities 17 months ago in the city of Izeh, north of Ahwaz, remains unknown as they continue to be held in Sheiban Prison without trial or any information regarding their status.
The families of the five detainees—Ashkan Mohammadi, Farshid Kazemi, Ramin Mohammadi, Reza Karimnejad, and Maziyar Nikoui—have expressed deep concern for their loved ones, demanding that their fate be revealed.
More than 520 days have passed since their arrest, with the detainees facing charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “actions against national security.” However, their legal case remains in limbo, with no court established to address the charges against them.
It is worth noting that these political prisoners staged a hunger strike on October 28 in protest of their prolonged detention without trial in Sheiban Prison.
Following their protest, they were transferred to solitary confinement. After some time, and with a promise from the Iranian occupation authorities to address their cases, they ended their hunger strike and were returned to the general prison population.
These individuals were arrested in August 2023 by security forces in Izeh, north of Ahwaz.
