Several Prisoners in Al-Ahwaz and Ramez Join the “No to Execution” Campaign

The No to Execution campaign announced in a statement that in its fiftieth week of activities, several prisoners in the prisons of Al-Ahwaz and Ramez joined the campaign, bringing the number of prisons participating in this weekly protest to 30.

The campaign’s statement noted that, coinciding with the New Year, 21 people were executed. Since the beginning of December, more than 80 executions have taken place.

The campaign also stated, “In 2024, 1,000 people were executed in Iran, while 128 countries worldwide have abolished the death penalty.”

The statement further mentioned that the prisoners participating in this campaign, who are on a hunger strike every Tuesday, are commemorating the fifth anniversary of the shooting down of the Ukrainian plane.

Members of the campaign emphasized that, in reference to the “solidarity” formed between the victims’ families and justice advocates following the downing of the Ukrainian plane, they call for the support of justice advocates for the No to Execution Tuesday campaign.

Previously, Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, warned about the increasing number of executions in the current year. According to his report, around 400 people were executed in Iran by September.

Additionally, several political prisoners across the geography referred to as Iran have joined the No to Execution campaign, maintaining their hunger strike every Tuesday since November 2022 to protest executions in Iran.
