Over 70 new detainees in sheiban Prison in Ahwaz face serious charges

The Karoun Human Rights Organization has revealed in a new report that Iran transferred more than 70 new detainees from quarantine to Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison, located in the city of Ahwaz, during the past week. This brings the total number of prisoners in that ward to around 110.

According to the report, these detainees were imprisoned on the basis of serious accusations, including “communication with the Israeli Mossad” and “espionage.”

They are currently in temporary detention and are being interrogated by Branch 13 under the supervision of Judge Lirki.

The report further notes that the files of these detainees have been referred to Ehsan Adib Mehr, the head of Branch 1 of the Iranian court in Ahwaz.

This development has raised growing concerns among human rights defenders, especially given Judge Adib Mehr’s reputation for issuing harsh sentences, including the death penalty, in previous cases involving activists and citizens.

Adib Mehr has previously presided over controversial trials, including the cases of Arab citizens Masoud Jameh and Ali Reza Mardassi (also known as Hamidawi), both of whom received death sentences.

His judicial record also includes cases such as Ali Mojahid, Mohammad Reza Mojahid, Moein Khanfari, Seyed Adnan Ghabishawi, Seyed Salem Al-Boushouka, and Habib Daris, all of whom were likewise sentenced to death.

In conclusion, the Karoun Human Rights Organization expressed deep concern about the ongoing legal proceedings, warning of the possibility of unjust verdicts against the new detainees.

It called on the Iranian authorities to respect their legal rights and ensure fair and transparent trials in accordance with international human rights standards.
