A new Iranian failure exposes deliberate neglect of arab infrastructure

In recent months, cities across Al-Ahwaz have witnessed a series of horrific explosions caused by gas leaks in residential homes, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries, as well as the destruction of entire houses. Meanwhile, the Iranian authorities continue to ignore this recurring disaster and refuse to address its root causes.

In the latest incident, a powerful explosion in the Pardis district of Al-Ahwaz city killed seven people and completely destroyed four houses. Since the beginning of the year, more than 27 similar accidents have been recorded in various cities of Al-Ahwaz, claiming 12 lives and injuring around 40 others.

Ahwazi activists believe that the main reason behind these explosions is the deterioration of gas networks established by Iran without proper safety standards or maintenance. Additionally, gas is transported from Persian regions through old, contaminated, and unsafe pipelines turning the “blessing of energy” into a constant source of danger for the people of Al-Ahwaz.

Human rights organizations accuse the Iranian regime of pursuing a policy of deliberate neglect toward the infrastructure in Al-Ahwaz, leaving the gas, electricity, and water networks in a state of decay. At the same time, the region’s rich oil and gas resources are transferred to central Iran without any real benefit to the local population.

A civil defense official in Al-Ahwaz stated that over 48% of the explosions were caused by gas leaks from corroded internal pipes, while another 46% resulted from the use of unsafe or damaged household appliances.

He added that “government negligence in inspection and maintenance increases the likelihood of new disasters every month.”

Observers note that these recurring humanitarian tragedies expose the extent of racial and economic discrimination practiced by Tehran against the Ahwazi people, who are left to suffer from poverty and crumbling infrastructure while the region’s oil and gas wealth is funneled to Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz.

As the Ahwazi people bury their victims amid official silence, public anger continues to grow toward Iran, which has turned life in Al-Ahwaz into a daily tragedy “a spark that can begin with a leak and end with the collapse of an entire home.”
