Trump’s Advisor Questions Why Iran Doesn’t Allow Ahwazis to Vote on Their Future
Professor Walid Phares, advisor to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, stated that the Iranian regime controls Arab oil fields in Ahwaz.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Phares questioned, “If the Iranian regime is truly democratic or believes in democracy, why doesn’t it allow the Arabs in Ahwaz to vote on their future? Instead, it suppresses them while it seeks to fight in Palestine.”
Phares added, “We have a long list of individuals assassinated by the Iranian regime.”
Iran has controlled the Arab state of Ahwaz for 100 years, during which this oppressive regime has portrayed itself as a defender of people’s rights while ignoring the rights of Ahwazi Arabs. The Ahwazi Arabs continue to suffer from marginalization and discrimination.
Despite the repression of Ahwazi Arabs, the Iranian regime claims to support the Palestinian cause. However, this support is seen as hypocritical, as the rights of Arabs in Ahwaz are disregarded.
For this reason, many accuse the Iranian regime of hypocrisy, as it seeks to garner Arab support through the Palestinian cause while oppressing Arabs domestically.
