The Thirst Speaks Louder Than Repression: A New Uprising by Ahwazi Farmers Against Water Theft and Land Drying

Massive protests have once again erupted in various regions of Arab Ahwaz, as outraged farmers took to the streets to demand their right to water, which has been systematically drained by Iranian occupation policies over the past decades.

This uprising comes in response to the ongoing theft of Ahwazi water resources and their diversion to Persian cities, exacerbating the crisis of drought and desertification in Ahwaz. These policies have caused severe damage to the agricultural sector, which is a primary source of livelihood for the Ahwazi people.

The water crisis in Ahwaz is not a recent issue but the result of decades of systematic policies implemented by the Iranian occupation authorities. The regime has diverted the natural course of Ahwazi rivers into Persian territories through massive projects.

Numerous reports have exposed these practices, which have led to an environmental disaster in Ahwaz. Fertile lands have turned into barren deserts, large numbers of livestock have perished due to thirst, and the destruction of vegetation has increased sandstorms, making life in the region even more difficult.

As the uprising reignited, Iranian security forces quickly resorted to brutal repression to disperse the protesters. This is not the first time the regime has used force against the Ahwazi people. The previous water uprising witnessed violent clashes that resulted in the deaths and injuries of demonstrators, along with widespread arrests targeting activists and journalists who sought to shed light on the crisis.

Despite the iron-fisted policies imposed by Iranian authorities, the voices of Ahwazi farmers continue to rise against injustice, affirming that they will not relinquish their rights to their water and land.

The protesters warn that the continuation of such oppressive policies will only escalate public anger, cautioning against an impending humanitarian and environmental catastrophe that threatens the future of Ahwaz and its people.
