More Than 100 Ahwazi Detainees in a New Wave of Repression by Iran in Al-Ahwaz
Ahwazi human rights sources have revealed that Iranian authorities launched a wide-scale campaign of arrests targeting members of the Arab Ahwazi population.
This is considered one of the largest security crackdowns in the occupied Ahwazi territories in recent months.
According to initial reports, the campaign extended across most areas of Al-Ahwaz, with over 100 citizens detained on what were described as “political and fabricated” charges.
These included allegations such as “spying for Israel,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “inciting public opinion.”
Distribution of Arrests
The sources indicated that the arrests were particularly concentrated in the following areas:
Northern Ahwaz: 67 arrests the highest number amid heightened security tensions.
Abu Shahr city (central Ahwaz): 19 arrests, including one Afghan woman who was residing in the city legally.
Hormoz region (southern Ahwaz): 15 arrests, among them a European woman whose nationality has not yet been disclosed.
These arrests come amid escalating regional tensions following recent Israeli attacks on Iran.
Reports indicate that many of those detained are cyber activists who had previously been summoned and interrogated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence or other security agencies operating in Al-Ahwaz.
Informed sources believe this crackdown aims to prevent the outbreak of public protests in Al-Ahwaz, especially in light of growing local anger over discriminatory policies.
In recent days, internet services were cut and communication channels were blocked, in an effort to prevent coordination and communication among residents and with the outside world.
