Iranian security escalation in Al-Ahwaz coinciding with the third anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death
Human rights reports have revealed a serious escalation by Iran’s intelligence services in occupied Arab Al-Ahwaz, where they carried out coordinated threatening phone calls with a number of Ahwazi activists, coinciding with the third anniversary of the death of the Kurdish girl Mahsa Amini on September 16, 2022.
According to the sources, several Ahwazi activists were summoned, interrogated, and directly threatened by security agencies, in a clear attempt to “prevent any potential civil or protest movement” during this anniversary, which has become a symbol of resistance against Iranian repression.
The human rights reports described these calls as “coordinated and targeted,” noting that they were part of a security campaign aimed at creating an atmosphere of fear and psychological pressure on activists, preventing them from engaging in any social or civil activities during this period.
Local activists confirmed that the methods used in these calls and summons reflect an attempt to break the morale of activists, especially women, who have played a prominent role in popular movements over the past years.
