Injury of political prisoner Jaber Al-Bouchouka in sheiban prison and denial of medical care

In continuation of Iran’s violations of human rights in the Al-Ahwaz region, human rights sources revealed that Ahwazi political prisoner Jaber Al-Bouchouka, sentenced to life imprisonment and detained in Sheiban Prison since 2010, sustained serious injuries during a football match inside the prison.

According to these sources, Al-Bouchouka suffered injuries to his lip and eyebrow as a result of the incident and was taken to the prison infirmary, where he received eight stitches on his eyebrow. However, the prison administration neglected to provide any additional necessary medical treatment.

The prisoner has been suffering for years from a pterygium in his left eye, an advanced eye condition requiring urgent surgery outside the prison. Although the prison doctor has repeatedly confirmed the need for the operation, the Sheiban authorities and security services continue to deny him treatment, refusing even to grant him a short medical leave.

Human rights organizations have considered these practices a clear example of deliberate medical deprivation against political prisoners in Al-Ahwaz, warning that continued negligence could lead to irreversible deterioration of his health.

Activists have pointed out that medical neglect has become an additional tool of repression used by the Iranian authorities to intimidate Ahwazi political detainees and undermine their dignity, in blatant violation of international law and human rights conventions.

Human rights advocates are calling on the international community and United Nations agencies to act urgently to pressure Tehran to ensure at least the minimum standard of healthcare for political prisoners and to hold those responsible for these grave violations accountable.
