Execution of 74 Lashes Against Ahwazi Singer Mehdi Yarahi
Zahra Minouei, the lawyer of Ahwazi singer Mehdi Yarahi, announced on the social media platform X that the 74-lash sentence issued by the Iranian occupation authorities has been carried out against her client and that his case is now closed.
According to the report, this ruling is the latest among the sentences issued by Branch 26 of the Iranian occupation court in Tehran against the artist.
Earlier, Mehdi Yarahi had explained his situation and the 74-lash sentence in a video posted online, stating that he condemned the ruling, had no request to overturn it, and was prepared to undergo the punishment.
On January 9, 2024, the Iranian occupation authorities sentenced the Ahwazi artist Mehdi Yarahi to “two years and eight months in prison and 74 lashes” after accusing him of spreading immoral and obscene content, encouraging and inciting people, and committing moral offenses through computer systems.
Yarahi is a writer and journalist known for his critical writings against the Iranian occupation. He was previously arrested in 2015 and sentenced to six years in prison but was released in 2020.
Yarahi was arrested on September 6, 2023, following the release of his song “Rosarito” by order of the Tehran Prosecutor General. He was released on bail from Evin Prison at the end of October.
