Approval of the death sentence against political prisoner Reza Abdoli in Ahwaz
Iran has upheld the death sentence issued against political prisoner Reza Abdoli, who is being held in Sheiban Prison in the city of Ahwaz, along with a 15-year prison sentence.
According to the HRANA News Agency, the highest judicial authority in Iran recently confirmed the verdict issued by one of the branches of the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz, which convicted Abdoli on false charges.
Reza Abdoli, 35 years old, is a native of Ahwaz and is currently detained in Ward 8 of Sheiban Prison. Sources reported that Iranian security forces arrested him in February 2024 and transferred him to Sheiban Prison after the investigation was completed.
He was also denied the right to appoint a lawyer of his choice throughout his detention.
This decision comes as part of a series of death sentences carried out by Iranian authorities against political detainees and prisoners on various charges, raising serious concerns among human rights organizations about increasing judicial violations and the lack of fair trial standards.
