به گزارش اینترنشنال در بیانیه وزرای خارجه هفت کشور صنعتی جهان، موسوم به گروه ۷، که روز جمعه ۱۵ مرداد منتشر شد آمده است که همه شواهد موجود به وضوح نشان می‌دهد که ایران عامل حمله به مرسر استریت بوده است.
به نوشته این بیانیه که توسط بریتانیا، رییس دوره‌ای گروه ۷، منتشر شد، «رفتار ایران در کنار حمایتش از نیروهای نیابتی و عوامل مسلح غیردولتی، تهدیدی برای صلح و امنیت بین‌المللی است.»
حمله به نفتکش مِرسِر استریت شامگاه پنجشنبه و نخستین ساعات بامداد جمعه گذشته روی داد و بر اثر آن ناخدای کشتی، شهروند رومانی، به همراه یک نیروی حفاظت کشتی، اهل بریتانیا، کشته شدند.
پیش از این اسرائیل، آمریکا و بریتانیا تاکید کرده بودند ایران را مسئول این حمله می‌دانند.
وزیران خارجه هفت کشور صنعتی جهان در بیانیه خود از جمهوری اسلامی خواسته‌اند که اقدامات مغایر با قطعنامه‌های شورای امنیت سازمان ملل را متوقف کند و در تقویت ثبات و صلح منطقه‌ای نقش سازنده‌ای برعهده گیرد.
جمهوری اسلامی دست داشتن در حمله به مرسر استریت را رد کرده است.
کشورهای گروه هفت شامل آمریکا، آلمان، ایتالیا، بریتانیا، ژاپن، فرانسه و کانادا است.
نفتکش مرسر استریت تحت مدیریت شرکت حمل و نقل دريايی «زودياک»، متعلق به یک خانواده اسرائیلی، است.
در روزهای اخیر شماری از مقام‌های کشورهای مختلف گفته‌اند حمله به این کشتی با چند پهپاد صورت گرفت.
روز جمعه همچنین خبرگزاری رویترز به نقل از دیپلمات‌ها گزارش داد که بریتانیا قصد دارد موضوع حمله به این کشتی را در نشست شورای امنیت سازمان ملل مطرح کند.
وزیر خارجه آمریکا گفته است این حمله با «پاسخ جمعی» روبه‌رو خواهد شد و وزیر دفاع اسرائیل هم اعلام کرده در صورت لزوم، کشورش برای حمله به ایران آمادگی دارد.
جمهوری اسلامی همچنین متهم به تلاش برای ربودن کشتی «آسفالت پرنسس» در آب‌های امارات متحده عربی شده اما این اتهام را رد کرده است.
