روزنامه آمریکایی وال استریت جورنال روز پنجشنبه هفتم مرداد از برنامه دولت جو بایدن برای اعمال تحریم‌های جدید علیه ایران به‌دلیل پیشرفت‌های این کشور در زمینه تولید و به‌کارگیری موشک‌های هدایت شونده دقیق و هواپیماهای بدون سرنشین خبر داد.
به نوشته این روزنامه، این بسته جدید تحریمی در پاسخ به نگرانی‌های فزاینده آمریکا از تهدیدهایی است که این تجهیزات نظامی پیشرفته ایران برای نظامیان آمریکا و متحدین آن‌ها در منطقه ایجاد می‌کند.
یک مقام آمریکایی که نخواست نامش فاش شود، به وال استریت جورنال گفته است: پهپادهای ایرانی یک تهدید روزافزون برای هم‌پیمانان ما در منطقه هستند و استفاده از این تجهیزات افزایش چشمگیری داشته است.
در بسته تحریم‌های جدید، سامانه‌های تدارکاتی ایران در ارتباط با پهپاد و موشک‌ها و نیز عواملی که مظنون به تامین قطعات مورد نیاز برای این تجهیزات باشند، هدف قرار می‌گیرند.
مقامات امنیتی غربی گفته‌اند که توانایی‌های ایران در طراحی و تولید پهپادها و موشک‌های بالستیک، در مقایسه با برنامه غنی‌سازی هسته‌ای آن، یک «تهدید فوری‌تر» است.
هر چند بخش وسیعی از امور مرتبط با برنامه موشکی ایران از سال‌ها پیش از سوی آمریکا تحریم شده است اما مقامات دولت جو بایدن به وال استریت جورنال گفته‌اند تحریم‌هایی که در دست تنظیم است، دقیق‌تر خواهد بود و می‌تواند به طور موثرتری راه پیشرفت ایران در این عرصه‌ها را سد کند.
مقامات آمریکایی طرف مصاحبه با وال استریت جورنال می‌گویند که تحریم‌های جدید جدا از مواردی است که واشینگتن پیشنهاد کرده است در صورت بازگشت ایران به تعهدات خود در برجام، آماده لغو آن‌هاست.
شایان ذکر است آمریکا، ایران را عامل حملات وسیع پهپادی به تاسیسات نفتی عربستان سعودی در رویداد دو سال پیش منطقه دانست؛ آن حملات دقیق نیمی از تولید نفت سعودی را برای مدتی متوقف کرد.
مقامات اسرائیلی نیز در آن زمان ایران را عامل حمله به عربستان معرفی کرده و افزوده بودند که ایران فن‌آوری تولید پهپاد را به حزب‌الله و همچنین به متحد دیگر منطقه‌ای خود، حماس، داده است.
موسسه بین‌المللی مطالعات راهبردی واشینگتن حدود شش ماه پیش ارزیابی کرده بود که ایران توانایی تولید پهپادهای خود را به میزان محسوسی ارتقا داده و همزمان، موتورها و برخی قطعات دیگر مورد نیاز در این حوزه را از «راه‌های غیر قانونی» دریافت می‌کند.
به نوشته آن موسسه، ایران پیشاپیش در تدارک احتمالات روبرو شدن با تحریم در زمینه قطعات موشکی و پهپادی بوده و لذا یک پایگاه تولید داخلی خود را ارتقا داده است.
