The Hell of Detainees: Widespread Human Rights Violations in Sheyban Prison
Human rights sources have exposed the inhumane conditions in Sheyban Prison, located in Ahwaz and controlled by the Iranian occupation, where widespread violations are perpetrated against Ahwazi detainees.
The sources highlighted that detainees in Sheyban Prison endure physical and psychological abuse, with many prisoners subjected to torture and beatings by Iranian occupation militias.
These sources added that Sheyban Prison is characterized by inhumane conditions that blatantly violate the most basic rights of detainees. Ahwazi prisoners face severe overcrowding, a lack of heating during the bitterly cold winter, and restrictions on access to medication and family visits.
Additionally, a large number of detainees are confined in cramped cells, jeopardizing their deteriorating health and exacerbating their daily suffering.
The facilities at Sheyban Prison are severely lacking in essential services, including sanitation, which has led to the outbreak of infectious diseases.
Families of detainees have reported that their imprisoned relatives suffer from poor-quality and insufficient food. Moreover, detainees face significant difficulties in accessing adequate medical care and treatment, which has a profound impact on their overall health.
The sources described the widespread abuses in Sheyban Prison as a stark example of the brutal tactics employed by the Iranian regime against political opponents and Ahwazi activists.
In mid-November, Sheyban Prison witnessed violent clashes between the prison administration and Ahwazi detainees due to harsh treatment and arbitrary practices by prison officials. These incidents left at least 15 prisoners injured, who were beaten and subsequently transferred to solitary confinement.
Reports indicate that the prison guards further restricted access to essential facilities by cutting off the telephones in Section 8 and removing the gas stoves used by detainees for cooking.
Human rights organizations have called on the international community to conduct independent investigations into the conditions of Ahwazi detainees in Iranian-occupied prisons and to save their lives from the slow death they face in Sheyban Prison.
