The cry of the people of Bab al-Salam neighborhoods: two decades of promises without action

A group of residents from Bab al-Salam, Hay al-Kahraba, Hay al-Bahr, and Hay al-Muthaqqafeen organized a protest this morning in front of the Ahwaz municipal building to express their outrage over the catastrophic state of infrastructure, healthcare, and public services in their areas.

Residents say that after more than 20 years of living there, they are still deprived of the most basic urban services. The roads are crumbling and dangerous, the streets remain dark, garbage is left uncollected, and stray animals roam freely.

Although the Director General of Rural Affairs previously promised to pave the roads, install surveillance cameras, and collect waste regularly, locals say they are exhausted by repeated unfulfilled promises.

One protester stated: “We’ve grown used to promises; we just want action. For 20 years, they’ve heard our voices but done nothing.”

Today’s gathering is not only a protest against poor infrastructure but also against years of neglect and irresponsibility by local authorities. A people living in the heart of wealth and the south of energy are forced to shout merely to get a single street light installed.
