International Pressure on Iran: Joint Statement Demanding an End to Repressive Arrests in Al-Ahwaz

A large group of political activists from Al-Ahwaz, the Baluch, Azerbaijani Turks, and Kurds, alongside several international human rights organizations, have called on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and the international community to take immediate action to halt the Iranian regime’s oppressive campaign of arrests in the occupied territories and to ensure the unconditional release of detainees.

Civil activists, poets, and social media users issued a joint statement in response to arbitrary arrests and violations of due process principles associated with the widespread detention of Ahwazi, Baluch, Azerbaijani Turkish, and Kurdish citizens.

In this statement, organizations such as the Abdorrahman Boroumand Foundation and the Ahwaz Human Rights Organization expressed deep concern over human rights violations and the repression faced by the Ahwazi Arab people. They urged the United Nations and international organizations to act immediately to secure the release of detainees and end such oppressive policies targeting Ahwazi citizens.

The full text of the statement is as follows:

“We, the undersigned organizations, express our profound concern over the recent wave of arrests in Al-Ahwaz. In recent days, dozens of civil activists, poets, and social media users have been subjected to arbitrary detentions without adherence to fair trial principles.

These actions, accompanied by violent home raids, threats to families, and confiscation of personal property, pose significant risks to the detainees. The lack of information about their whereabouts and conditions exacerbates fears of potential torture and mistreatment.

These acts are not only blatant violations of human rights but also contravene Tehran’s international commitments. The Iranian authorities are legally obligated to uphold freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, and fair trials for all citizens.

The recent arrests reflect a repressive policy aimed at undermining the cultural, social, and political identity of the Ahwazi Arab population, systematically violating their fundamental rights.

We call upon the United Nations, human rights organizations, and the international community to take immediate action and demand the unconditional release of all detainees.

We also urge the media and human rights activists to document these inhumane actions and raise global awareness of this crisis. Accurate and consistent reporting can play a crucial role in exposing these violations and ending oppressive policies.
