Fire destroys More than 200 date palm Trees in Al-Ahwaz amid accusations against Iran

A massive fire broke out in the palm groves of one of Al-Ahwaz’s villages, destroying more than 200 fruitful date palm trees, amid accusations that Iran deliberately neglected the incident as part of a policy aimed at erasing the Arab identity of Al-Ahwaz.

According to local sources, the fire erupted last night and spread rapidly through the palm groves due to dry land and dense dry grass. Firefighting teams were late in arriving at the scene, which contributed to the expansion of the blaze.

Residents confirmed that the flames threatened to reach three villages neighboring the village of Moghitiya, but thanks to the efforts of locals and some field teams, the fire was eventually contained and prevented from escalating further.

The incident did not result in any human casualties, but the material losses were significant, with hundreds of palm trees destroyed trees that represent a vital part of the Arab agricultural heritage in Al-Ahwaz.

Ahwazi activists believe that the recurrence of such fires reflects Iran’s deliberate attempt to weaken local agriculture and undermine one of the most prominent symbols of Arab identity in the region. They stressed that palm trees are not only a source of livelihood but also a historical and cultural symbol for the people of Al-Ahwaz.

It is worth noting that Al-Ahwaz is home to more than two million fruitful date palms, while farmers continue to suffer from ongoing restrictions and the absence of support needed to preserve this deep-rooted agricultural legacy.
