Execution of two Ahwazi prisoners in Al-Huwaira
In a new escalation of human rights violations committed by Iran against the Arab Ahwazi people, the authorities carried out the execution of two Ahwazi prisoners on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Al-Huwaira (Sepidar) Prison in the city of Ahwaz.
The victims were Yousef Asadi Kouhbad, 31 years old, from the village of Kouhbad in Izeh city, northern Ahwaz, and Ahmad Bani Asad, 38 years old, from Khafajiya.
According to human rights sources, Ahmad Bani Asad had previously been arrested on charges of murder during a quarrel, while Yousef Asadi was arrested seven years ago and sentenced to death on charges of premeditated murder in a trial that lacked transparency. Reports also indicated that he was subjected to torture and forced confessions under coercion.
These executions come as part of a systematic policy pursued by the Iranian regime to suppress Ahwazi voices and punish the local population by filing criminal charges and issuing harsh sentences without meeting the minimum standards of a fair trial.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the repressive practices against detainees in Ahwaz, who are denied their right to legal defense and are often prevented from contacting independent lawyers or their families.
Ahwazi activists and human rights institutions call on the international community to pressure Iran to stop its campaigns of executions and arbitrary arrests in Ahwaz and to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its ongoing crimes against the Arab Ahwazi people.
