Execution of Six Political Prisoners in Ahwaz Sparks Widespread Human Rights Condemnation
Iranian authorities carried out the execution of six Arab political prisoners on Saturday morning (October 4, 2025) in Al-Huwaira Prison in the city of Ahwaz, following orders issued by Iran’s judiciary.
Despite implementing the executions, Iranian officials did not release the names of the prisoners, merely describing them as “six separatist terrorists linked to the Zionist regime.”
However, human rights organizations had previously warned of the imminent danger these prisoners faced, stressing that their lives had been at risk for a long time.
According to human rights reports, the executed prisoners were:
Ali Mojadam, Moein Khanfari, Seyed Salem Mousavi, Mohammadreza Moghaddam, Adnan Al-Bushouka (Ghabishawi), and Habib Drees.
The Iranian authorities had arrested these young men in late 2018 and early 2019.
They were subjected to months of torture in the detention centers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Intelligence Service before being sentenced to death.
Sources indicated that Habib Drees and Seyed Salem Mousavi were still in Ward 5 of Sheyban Prison in Ahwaz until Friday evening, before being secretly transferred overnight to Al-Huwaira Prison, where the death sentences were carried out at dawn alongside the other four prisoners.
Several international human rights organizations described the executions as “a flagrant violation of the right to life” and “an inhumane crime,” calling on the international community and the UN Human Rights Council to condemn these arbitrary actions and pressure Iran to halt its policy of random and opaque executions targeting Arab activists in Ahwaz.
