Yigal Carmon’s Statements on Dr. Aref Al-Kaabi’s Article and the Liberation of Ahwaz from Iranian Occupation
In a television interview,Yigal Carmon, head of the “MEMRI” institute in Washington, referenced an article by Dr. Aref Al-Kaabi discussing the dream of liberating the State of Ahwaz from Iranian occupation.
Carmon approached the topic with a comprehensive view, emphasizing that Iran poses not only a domestic issue but also a threat to the region and the world, suggesting that solutions can be achieved without resorting to war. He explained that the Iranian regime could be halted and removed without the need for an all-out war, highlighting that no one favors wars—not even former U.S. President Donald Trump sought such a path.
According to Carmon, Iran’s regime could collapse from within if support were given to the oppressed ethnic minorities within Iran, who have endured the regime’s repression for many years. He noted that about 50% of Iran’s population is Persian, with a portion of this group opposing the regime and others supporting Khamenei, while the rest of the population consists of oppressed minorities, including Ahwazi Arabs, Balochs, Kurds, and Azeris, alongside smaller ethnic groups.
Carmon mentioned that these minorities have long fought for freedom and self-governance, with some even seeking full independence. However, the West has yet to provide adequate support, despite the Iranian regime’s funding and sponsorship of terrorist organizations. He emphasized that Western support for these minorities would apply significant pressure on the Iranian regime and help weaken it.
However, he stated that this support should go beyond merely offering media platforms to share their cause; it should also include financial and military assistance. He clarified that this support would not mean direct Western military intervention but would empower these groups in their pursuit of self-rule.
Carmon highlighted Dr. Aref Al-Kaabi’s article, titled “I Have a Dream,” calling it a beautiful and moving piece that reflects the aspirations of the Ahwazi people for freedom. He praised Dr. Al-Kaabi as the “leader of the Ahwazis,” noting that the article underscores the need for freedom and assistance in confronting the “mad Iranian regime,” as he described it.
He also mentioned an interview he conducted with the leader of the Balochs, affirming that the United States maintains close contact with the leaders of these minorities and that American intelligence agencies have extensive information about them. Nonetheless, he stressed that American support should not be limited to media access but should also include material and military aid to enable these minorities to work toward their objectives.
Carmon began his remarks by pointing out that Iran poses a threat not only to Israel but also to the West in general. He explained that the Iranian regime views the United States as the “Great Satan” and Israel as the “Little Satan,” a sentiment evident in the speeches of Iranian officials, which often conclude with phrases like “Death to America, Death to Israel.”
