Ahwaz Bedouin Tribes: Distribution of 140 Water Tanks Is Not Enough to Solve the Water Crisis

The Directorate of Bedouin Affairs in Ahwaz has announced the distribution of 50 additional water tanks to the Bedouins in Al-Salihiya district, north of Ahwaz, as part of an effort to address the severe water crisis affecting the region’s residents.

Despite Ahwaz’s rich oil and gas resources, the lack of proper infrastructure makes it difficult to provide basic necessities, particularly access to water.

Since October of last year, 140 polyethylene water tanks have been distributed to the Bedouins in Al-Salihiya. While this initiative has provided partial relief, it has not fully resolved the water issue in the area.

Despite these efforts, Bedouin tribes believe that these measures are insufficient to tackle the ongoing crisis. Many residents have expressed their frustration with these temporary solutions, arguing that they do not address the root cause of the problem: the absence of a permanent water infrastructure.

In a statement, a tribal leader from Al-Salihiya said:
“Distributing water tanks may help in the short term, but the real issue is the chronic water shortage in the region. We cannot rely on temporary water tanks while the necessary water infrastructure remains nonexistent.”

Bedouin areas in Ahwaz suffer from harsh living conditions and severe water shortages due to the lack of infrastructure and neglect of their essential needs, despite the region’s abundant natural resources.

Residents of Al-Salihiya and other areas continue to face significant difficulties in accessing clean drinking water, raising questions about resource distribution in Ahwaz and the lack of benefits for the local population.

This crisis persists despite Ahwaz’s vast oil and gas wealth, further fueling resentment among residents who believe that these resources should be used to improve their living conditions, including ensuring access to basic necessities such as water. Despite the region’s wealth, many villages and towns still lack the essential infrastructure needed for a sustainable water supply.
