Ahwazi prisoner Amir Neissi, born in 1998, passed away on Tuesday evening after nearly six years of detention in Sheiban Prison in Ahwaz (Sections 5 and 8), following a severe internal infection and the denial of necessary medical care.
According to the issued report, Neissi had previously been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz, presided over by Judge Mohammadi.
He had been suffering from a chronic illness, and with the continuous delay in providing medical treatment, his health condition deteriorated due to the spread of an acute infection in his body.
Despite the appearance of serious symptomsincluding high fever and a rapid decline in his condition the authorities of Sheiban Prison refused to transfer him urgently to medical facilities outside the prison, which ultimately led to his death.
Ahwazi human rights activists consider the death of Amir Neissi a stark example of what they call “silent deaths” resulting from Iran’s systematic policies of denying medical treatment to Arab political prisoners in Ahwazi prisons.
