Education deteriorates due to pollution and environmental negligence resulting from Iran’s policies

The director of Iran’s education department in Ahwaz revealed that schools in the region have been closed for one-third of the academic year so far a new indication of the environmental disaster caused by Tehran’s policies in Ahwaz.

The Iranian official explained that these closures occurred during what he described as the “golden time for education,” in November and December, stressing that the ongoing air pollution has deprived thousands of Ahwazi students of their right to normal education.

He pointed out that the repeated suspension of classes is not a solution but merely a “temporary painkiller,” calling for real measures to reduce pollution. However, he ignored the fact that the pollution mainly stems from factories and oil projects established by the authorities without any regard for the environment or public health.

He added that schools in Ahwaz have been closed five times since the beginning of the school year and started late on four other occasions, meaning they have effectively been out of operation for one-third of the academic year.
