A Father of two behind bars… Tareq Al-Kaabi detained without charge for months

Human rights organizations have expressed deep concern over the fate of Ahwazi labor activist Tareq Al-Kaabi, 29, who has been held in Quneitra Prison for several months under mysterious circumstances, with no information about his legal status or any charges against him since his arrest on January 8, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, Tareq was detained while on his way to work at the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company, when Iranian intelligence agents raided the bus carrying him and his colleagues.

He was arrested violently without explanation or any legal warrant.

About a month later, on February 8, he was transferred to Quneitra Prison, where he remains held without trial or hearing.

According to informed human rights sources, the Iranian authorities have not officially announced the charges against him.

However, it is believed that his detention is linked to his activity on social media, where Tareq frequently posted content highlighting the suffering of the Ahwazi Arab people and calling for their rights.

This suggests that the accusations may be connected to “freedom of expression” and “peaceful political activity.”

Tareq Al-Kaabi comes from the city of Sus in northern Ahwaz. He is a father of two and is known for his political and social positions defending the rights of the Ahwazi people.

His family is well-known for political activism: his brother Maher Al-Kaabi was previously imprisoned for years due to his activities, while another brother, Ahmed Al-Kaabi, remains detained in Kerman Central Prison.

Tareq’s family has expressed grave concern over his continued detention without trial, particularly with no available information regarding his health condition or his exact place of detention.

This uncertainty has deepened their suffering and fears for his fate. The family has called for his immediate release or, at the very least, for him to be granted a fair trial in accordance with legal standards.
