Reports of Escalating Abuses Against Political Prisoners in Sheyban Prison, Al-Ahwaz

Human rights sources have revealed that security and judicial officials of the Iranian occupation authorities conducted a surprise visit to Sheyban Prison in occupied Al-Ahwaz. During the visit, they interrogated and threatened political prisoners, warning them against leaking information about their conditions inside the prison to the media and international human rights organizations.

According to information obtained by human rights groups, the visit focused on the prison’s fifth and eighth wards, where several political prisoners were subjected to interrogation.

Some detainees reportedly endured physical and psychological torture, along with threats of being denied medical treatment, having their contact with family cut off, and being transferred to harsher prisons.

Sources reported that prison officials described any communication with the media or human rights organizations as a “crime,” threatening further punishment if such “leaks from inside the prison” occur again.

Human rights activists have described these actions as a serious escalation in the violation of freedom of expression and the right to medical care. They stressed that what is happening in Sheyban Prison represents a systematic pattern of mistreatment and psychological torture in Iranian prisons, especially against political prisoners from Al-Ahwaz.

The activists urged international human rights organizations to dispatch independent investigative and monitoring committees to Iranian prisons to uncover the reality of the conditions and ensure the detainees’ minimum human rights are upheld.

Sheyban Prison is considered one of the main facilities where political prisoners from Al-Ahwaz are held. Human rights organizations continuously document systematic violations against detainees due to their political activism or demands for their historical rights.
